WORLD AIDS DAY – 1st DECEMBER

  About  : World Aids Day is observed every year on the first day of December for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and show support for people living with and affected by HIV as well as commemorating those who have died from AIDS related illness. Though great strides have been made over the four decades since the first known reported cases of AIDS, this disease remains a public health challenge.  The theme for  this  year is “Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV.” It encourages people to unite globally to eliminate the disparities and inequities that create barriers to HIV testing, prevention, and access to HIV care. The theme also highlights the importance of HIV testing. WORLD COPD DAY – 16TH NOVEMBER

  About: World COPD Day is observed every year on the third Wednesday of November to raise awareness, share knowledge, and discuss ways to reduce the burden of COPD worldwide. This day is organized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) in collaboration with health care professionals and COPD patient groups throughout the world.   The theme for this year is “Your lungs for Life” which aims to highlight the importance of lifelong lung health. What is COPD ? Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease which is preventable and treatable and characterized by long term respiratory symptoms and airflow blockage. This group of lung conditions have two main forms, namely : i)                  Chronic bronchitis – It involves a long term cough with mucus. ii)                Emphysema – It involves damage to the lung over time. NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY – 7TH NOVEMBER

About : National Cancer Awareness Day is observed on 7 th  November in India to raise awareness about the importance of  cancer prevention and early detection of the disease. In India, nearly  two-thirds of cancer cases are diagnosed in the advanced stages, thereby reducing the chances of survival of patients, hence, early detection and further research into curing cancer can help save lives. This day also encourages people for screenings as early detection of cancer helps lower the mortality rate. History : National Cancer Awareness Day was first announced by the Indian Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan in September, 2014 and 7 th  November will be observed every year to generate awareness about early detection and avoiding leading cancer causing lifestyles like the use of tobacco, drug abuse, poor diet and pollution.
